Structural Fire Protection

The installation of A60 structural fire protection as part of modifications to a ship’s cabin areas to allow the safe passage of crew and passengers to lifeboats in the event of a major fire.
An A60 rating refers to the amount of minutes i.e in this case 60 minutes, that a fire of certain magnitude can burn without the ship’s structure being compromised.

The correct installation process to install any fire rated insulation, is to weld insulation pins to the deck and bulk heads at a minimum of 300mm intervals. Depending on the fabric of the ship (i.e aluminium or steel) the thickness of the insulation materials differs for the outer shell/lining of the vessel and the structural ribs and braces. In this instance there are staggered layers of insulation of 75mm thickness.

These modifications spanned six cabins on three ships, taking ten days to complete the works.
